The mushroom farmer spoke to WHO about his latest endeavour – and the fan reaction to it.
The moon landing, Area 51 and the Illuminati may be some of the longest-standing conspiracy theories, but nothing compares to the rumours surrounding the farmers on Farmer Wants A Wife.
Fans of the show often swap their cowboy hats for tin-foil ones, with someone accused of not being a real farmer every year.
This year, it was Farmer Alex.
The mushroom farmer leaned into the discourse, spending the season joking that he was a “paid actor”. But in a twist even the show’s producers couldn’t have scripted, the 28-year-old has revealed he’s signed up for acting classes.
Yes, really.
Speaking exclusively to WHO about what life has looked like since filming wrapped — and following his breakup from Eddy — Alex admitted his latest move may give sceptical viewers all the ammunition they need.
“I’m starting [acting workshops] in two weeks. The paid actor accusations are coming out,” he said.
Shh… do you hear that? That’s the sound of conspiracy theorists furiously typing, “I KNEW IT!”
The ‘paid actor’ jokes that started it all
Alex’s admission brings one of the season’s longest-running jokes (although, we’re sure plenty of viewers will claim it is anything BUT a joke) full circle.
When the 2026 season kicked off, those following the show questioned whether Alex was a “real farmer” after he shared a day-in-the-life video on Instagram from his family’s Queensland mushroom and cattle farm.
Leaning into his influencer era, Alex was seen sipping his morning coffee, visiting the beach, playing tennis and practising the piano — because, apparently, farmers aren’t allowed coffee or hobbies.
When WHO asked him about the backlash at the time, Alex responded with a healthy dose of sarcasm.
“I’m not a real farmer. I’m a paid actor,” he joked.
“The people that own the farm that I work at pay me to act as a farmer. I don’t do any work.”
Of course, Alex really does work on his family’s farm, reportedly spending seven days a week there.
Still, he hasn’t been able to dodge the “fake farmer” accusations, and he isn’t the only one. Farmer Zac was spotted working as an electrician, while Farmer Dylan was revealed to be a plumbing apprentice.
But look, in this economy, having a side gig is hardly a far-fetched concept.
Taking acting classes, however? Alex knows that one isn’t exactly going to silence the conspiracy theorists.
Alex takes the conspiracy one step further
Instead of attempting to set the record straight again, Alex is fully embracing the chaos.
“It all unravelled,” he joked. “Eddy was a paid actor. I was a paid actor. The cattle were paid actors.”
At this rate, we’ll soon learn that the mushrooms had agents too.
While Alex probably isn’t clearing space for an Academy Award just yet, the workshops could mark the beginning of an unexpected post-show chapter for the farmer.
And after his fiery exchange with Eddy at the reunion, maybe pretending to be someone else for a few hours will be a welcome change.
Either way, if Alex does end up back on our screens, one thing is certain: Farmer Wants A Wife viewers will be waiting to say, “I told you so.”
