For months, Kyle Sandilands had been putting off an appointment he knew he could not avoid forever.
The radio personality, 55, eventually sat down with specialists to find out whether the brain aneurysm first discovered last year had changed.
The answer was not what he had been hoping for.
The appointment Kyle had been dreading
The latest update was revealed on his subscription program, Kyle Sandilands Live, where cameras followed him as he went to a medical appointment.
Before seeing the specialist, Kyle admitted he had been dreading the moment he would finally learn whether the aneurysm had grown.
After leaving the clinic, he revealed that it had.
The aneurysm had increased by 1 millimetre.
While that may sound like a small change, Kyle made clear that it was not the result he had been hoping to hear.
He had been holding on to the possibility that the condition might remain stable — or even become smaller.
Instead, the latest scan brought a different reality.
“That wasn’t the thing I wanted to hear”
Speaking afterwards, Kyle said he had convinced himself he could somehow turn the situation around.
He had hoped the aneurysm would become smaller rather than larger.
The latest result forced him to confront a possibility he had been trying not to think too much about.
According to reports of the appointment, doctors still do not believe it is large enough to justify surgery at this stage.
For Kyle, however, the fact that it has grown has made the situation feel considerably more serious.
He described the prospect of eventually needing surgery as frightening, particularly because of the risks involved.
Why doctors are still choosing to monitor it
Kyle has previously explained that the aneurysm is in a difficult location behind his eye.
When the condition was first discovered, doctors considered surgery too risky and instead chose to monitor it.
That position has not yet changed.
The latest increase means the aneurysm is being watched closely, but doctors have not recommended operating simply because it has grown by one millimetre.
For now, the medical approach remains one of careful monitoring rather than immediate intervention.
A diagnosis he first revealed publicly in 2025
Kyle first told listeners about the aneurysm in February 2025 while hosting The Kyle & Jackie O Show.
At the time, he said doctors had discovered a brain aneurysm that required urgent medical attention. He also revealed that a second aneurysm had been identified in his chest.
The brain aneurysm was initially reported to be around 4 millimetres.
Doctors subsequently monitored the condition rather than proceeding directly to surgery because of the potential complications.
Earlier this year, Kyle had offered a more reassuring update, saying specialists had reviewed his scans and believed the aneurysms had stabilised.
That made the latest result particularly difficult for him to process.
“I’m full of regret”
The latest conversation also prompted Kyle to reflect on his past lifestyle.
He acknowledged that he had made choices over the years that he now regrets and spoke openly about how much he fears both the condition itself and the possibility of surgery.
His comments revealed a more vulnerable side of a broadcaster who has generally built his public persona around bluntness and humour.
And despite the difficult news, his focus ultimately appeared to return to something much more personal: his family.
Kyle is married to Tegan Kynaston, and the couple have a young son, Otto. During the episode, a call involving his family provided a noticeably lighter moment amid what had otherwise been an unsettling day.
What happens from here remains uncertain
For now, there is no indication that Kyle is facing immediate surgery.
The aneurysm has grown, but doctors have decided that operating at its current size would carry greater risks than continuing to monitor it.
That leaves Kyle in an uncomfortable position: knowing the condition has changed, while also knowing that the procedure he fears is not yet considered the safest option.
