Sylvia Jeffreys and Peter Stefanovic first crossed paths while working in Australian television, with their professional relationship eventually developing into something more.
The pair began dating around 2014, but their new romance was soon put to the test when Peter took on work overseas as a foreign correspondent.
For a young couple, the distance could easily have been a breaking point.
Instead, Peter found a very old-fashioned way to keep their connection alive.
The love letters that kept them close
As Peter prepared to leave Australia, he wrote Sylvia a love letter.
And it wasn’t the last.
During their time apart, he continued to woo his future wife with handwritten letters, helping the couple maintain their connection despite being thousands of kilometres apart.
It worked.
Their relationship continued to grow, and in July 2016, Peter proposed during a holiday in France.
The couple shared their engagement news from a French vineyard, with Sylvia proudly showing off her diamond ring.
A beautiful wedding by the lake
On April 1, 2017, Sylvia and Peter exchanged vows in an intimate outdoor ceremony at a private property in Kangaroo Valley, NSW.
Surrounded by family, close friends and some of their television colleagues, the couple began their married life together.
It was the beginning of the family they had both dreamed of building.
A dream of a house full of children
Even before becoming parents, Sylvia and Peter had spoken openly about wanting children.
Sylvia once shared that they hoped to raise their children surrounded by the same sense of family they had experienced growing up, with plenty of time spent with cousins and loved ones.

Oscar was the first
In February 2020, Sylvia and Peter welcomed their first child, son Oscar Hamilton Stefanovic.
Sylvia shared the happy news with her followers, describing Oscar as their beautiful boy, weighing 3.4kg with deep blue eyes.
Peter was equally overwhelmed with pride, praising Sylvia and celebrating the arrival of their new “best mate”.
Then came Henry
Just over a year later, in April 2021, the couple welcomed their second son, Henry.
His arrival transformed their household into a family of four, with Oscar suddenly taking on the role of big brother.
Sylvia described Henry as their “gorgeous, healthy little boy” and celebrated the love that came with becoming a family of four.
With the boys born less than 15 months apart, life became busier — and undoubtedly louder — but the couple embraced the chaos of raising two young children.

After years of being a family of four, Sylvia and Peter have revealed their next beautiful chapter.
On August 16, 2026, Sylvia announced that she is pregnant with the couple’s third child.
And there was an extra-special surprise.
They’re expecting a baby girl.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Sylvia wrote:
“Oh baby… number 3 is on the way and the boys are already taking their big bro duties seriously.”
She also revealed the moment Oscar discovered that the baby would be a girl, writing:
“Swipe for the moment Oscar told us it’s a … GIRL!”
The announcement showed just how excited the boys already are about welcoming their little sister.
Oscar and Henry are ready for their new roles
Oscar is now six, while Henry is five — and both boys are about to discover what it means to have a baby sister.
For Sylvia and Peter, the arrival of their daughter will mark another major milestone in a relationship that began with two journalists meeting at work and surviving a long-distance romance through love letters.
