And the idea being discussed could have created one of Australian media’s more unexpected pairings.
Karl Stefanovic Suddenly Enters the Jackie O Story
According to correspondence referred to during the hearing, ARN executives had discussed the possibility of pairing Henderson with Stefanovic in a new breakfast program.
One email raised the question of whether the proposed show involving “Karl” should be limited to Sydney and made available through iHeart streaming, or whether it could have had a broader reach.
Henderson’s lawyer, Vanja Bulut, indicated that the Karl being discussed was Today host Karl Stefanovic.
A Very Different Future Was Being Considered
The correspondence suggests ARN was considering possible alternatives for Henderson as discussions continued around her future with the company.
Instead of the arrangement audiences had known for years, one option involved putting Henderson alongside Stefanovic in an entirely new pairing.
For Jackie, it could have represented a significant change in her broadcasting career. For Karl, it would have placed the television presenter alongside one of Australian radio’s most recognisable personalities.
But the Plan Never Reached Audiences
Despite being discussed internally, the proposed pairing ultimately did not proceed.
Bulut told the hearing that the breakfast-show idea had been abandoned “for reasons unknown” and that Henderson was instead offered an afternoon show for significantly lower remuneration.
Exactly why the earlier proposal failed to progress was not explained in the material reported from the hearing.
Karl Later Joined ARN in Another Role
Stefanovic did eventually work with ARN — although not alongside Henderson.
He was recruited to host The Long Weekend with Eddie McGuire, but the program ended after only a few episodes.

The Wider Dispute Between Jackie O and ARN
The revelation has emerged amid a broader legal dispute between Henderson and her former employer.
ARN argues Henderson had already been considering changes to her career before the February 20 fallout with Kyle Sandilands that preceded the collapse of The Kyle & Jackie O Show.
Henderson’s lawyers later told ARN she was willing to continue working for the company but wanted an alternative timeslot because she said she could no longer work with Sandilands.
ARN terminated Henderson’s broadcasting contract on March 3. Henderson is suing the company, while ARN has filed a counterclaim.
A Deleted Podcast Has Also Become Part of the Case
Another element of the dispute involves a February 4 episode of Henderson’s Her Best Life podcast with her manager and co-host Gemma O’Neill.
ARN alleges the episode was later removed, along with earlier episodes, after its contents had become relevant to the court proceedings.
The network is relying on comments made during the podcast as part of its argument about when Henderson began considering possible changes to her career.
These remain claims being advanced as part of the ongoing proceedings.
The Court Has Yet to Decide Either Side’s Claims
No final determination has been made about the competing allegations.
The Federal Court has not yet decided either Henderson’s claims or ARN’s counterclaim, and the matter is expected to go to trial in October.
For now, however, the proceedings have already revealed something audiences previously knew little about: before the dispute reached this point, ARN had considered a very different broadcasting future for Jackie O — and Karl Stefanovic could have been part of it.
